Microsoft's employees have been encouraged to utilize AI tools extensively, but one employee took it too far.

A recent internal tracker revealed that a single employee spent $28,000 on AI tools in just 28 days. This figure is significantly higher than the company-wide median of around $300 per month.

The employee, who worked in the Customer and Partner Solutions organization, was dubbed 'tokenmaxxing king' by Gadget Review.

Microsoft leadership has taken notice of this excessive spending and is taking steps to reign it in. In early August, Jay Parikh, executive vice president of Microsoft's CoreAI division, sent a memo to employees urging them to focus on maximizing outcomes for customers rather than token usage.
