Microsoft, DeChambeau Unveil 'Smart Grip' Prototype to Analyze Golf Swing Pressure

A collaboration between Bryson DeChambeau and Microsoft has yielded a prototype 'smart grip' designed to analyze pressure applied throughout a golfer's swing. The smart grip features eight embedded sensors that return real-time pressure data, which is then processed via Microsoft Azure.

The data collected from DeChambeau will be analyzed in future phases of the project using machine-learning algorithms to provide insights on grip and club usage, swing speed, rhythm, plane, and other performance metrics. The smart grip was built into DeChambeau's existing JumboMax grips using a one-inch square of embeddable microelectronics known as Sensoria Core.

The partnership between Microsoft and the PGA Tour dates back to 2015, with Microsoft becoming the official operating system of the PGA Tour. Sensoria, a Seattle-based company founded in 2011 by former Microsoft employees, develops smart garments and IoE wearable solutions.
