Microsoft Denies Secret Data Collection on Windows 11

Microsoft has denied claims that its Windows 11 operating system secretly collects user data every 15 minutes.

The controversy surrounds a service called 'Windows Health and Optimized Experiences' (whesvc), which was integrated into the OS in 2025.

According to Microsoft, this service only collects local performance data, such as CPU usage and battery health, when users opt-in through their privacy settings.

The company's deputy technical director, Scott Hanselman, confirmed that user consent is required for any data transmission to Microsoft.

This incident comes on the heels of a similar controversy surrounding Windows Recall, which was criticized for its constant screen monitoring and data collection practices.
