Microsoft Disables Exchange Web Services, Cutting Off Apple Mail Sync
Microsoft is disabling Exchange Web Services (EWS) by default in Exchange Online, affecting Apple's Mail and Calendar apps on Mac. This change has been in the works since Microsoft stopped adding new features to EWS in 2018.
The cutoff will impact users of Microsoft 365 work accounts, but not those who run their own Exchange servers or use iPhone and iPad, which rely on Exchange ActiveSync instead of EWS.
Apple is aware of the situation and is working with Microsoft to move Mail and Calendar apps to the newer Microsoft Graph API in a future macOS update. However, this update has yet to arrive, leaving some Mac users without access to their Microsoft 365 accounts.
