Microsoft Ditches Three Companion Apps for Microsoft 365
Microsoft has announced that three companion apps for Microsoft 365 will be retired in December. The Calendar, File, and People apps are taskbar-integrated tools designed to streamline workflows and help users stay focused. However, the company now considers them unnecessary.
The apps will no longer function or receive support after December 16, 2026. Admins must prevent new installations and remove existing apps by this date. Users can continue accessing calendar information, people, and files through other Microsoft 365 tools like Outlook, Teams, and Windows Search Box.
Microsoft's announcement advises admins to inform users about the retirement and take steps to remove references from internal documentation and guides.
