Microsoft has donated a significant portion of its Quarry Yards site in Atlanta's Grove Park neighborhood to the city, specifically for affordable housing and community development. The 22.5-acre parcel, valued as one-quarter of the larger property, was transferred from Microsoft to the Atlanta Urban Development Corporation (AUD) in November 2025.

The AUD is a nonprofit subsidiary of the Housing Authority of the City of Atlanta, with a mission to create mixed-income communities that offer lasting affordability protections. The site's proximity to existing amenities like KIPP Woodson Academy and the Grove Park Recreation Center positions it as an anchor for connected development.

Affordable housing is a key priority in Atlanta, with Mayor Andre Dickens aiming to construct or preserve 20,000 affordable units by 2029. Microsoft's donation is seen as a crucial step towards achieving this goal.
