Microsoft Doubles Down on Gulf AI and Cloud Investment with USD 10 Billion Pledge
Microsoft has significantly increased its planned investment in the Gulf region to over USD 10 billion through 2030, adding around USD 2 billion to previous commitments. The expanded commitment covers AI and cloud infrastructure, connectivity, digital resilience, cybersecurity, and workforce development across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait.
The investment signals a shift towards a broader regional ecosystem for AI infrastructure, going beyond individual data center projects. For companies operating in the region, this could mean greater access to AI and cloud infrastructure as Microsoft expands its footprint.
Microsoft's combined capital and operating expenditure across the four countries will exceed USD 10 billion through 2030, including a previously announced USD 7.9 billion commitment for the UAE. The new spending will support the expansion of AI and cloud infrastructure, with over USD 400 million earmarked for subsea and terrestrial connectivity by 2030.
The tech giant also plans to launch a Middle East digital resilience initiative focused on continuity planning and vulnerability assessments. Microsoft is expanding its partnerships with regional AI organizations, including Abu Dhabi-based G42 and Saudi Arabia's HUMAIN, and Qatar's QAI.
