Microsoft Edge Users Must Replace MDAG and WIP by September 2026

Microsoft has given its Edge users until the end of September 2026 to replace Microsoft Defender Application Guard (MDAG) and Windows Information Protection (WIP) as these features will no longer be supported.

The move is part of Microsoft's plan to retire MDAG, which has been in the process for years. The company deprecated Defender Application Guard for Edge in December 2023 and removed it from Windows 11 version 24H2. Now, support inside Edge will end with the rollout finishing by September 2026.

MDAG allowed organizations to isolate untrusted websites and files in a hardware-based container, reducing the risk of malicious content accessing a user's system. WIP is also going away as it was discontinued in 2022 but some organizations still have policies that depend on it.

Microsoft recommends moving data protection workloads to supported technologies such as Microsoft Purview Information Protection or Data Loss Prevention, Endpoint DLP, and Microsoft Intune app protection policies.
