Microsoft Employees' AI Usage Varies Widely Across Teams
Microsoft employees are voluntarily tracking and reporting their AI usage and spending through an internal tool. The company is racing to build AI products and has spent hundreds of billions on infrastructure, but it's unclear if heavier AI use translates into bigger rewards for employees.
A spreadsheet viewed by Business Insider shows that the median AI usage amount was around $300 over 28 days, while the highest reported figure was $28,000 from an employee in the Microsoft Customer and Partner Solutions organization.
The data is self-reported and may contain errors, but it provides a rare glimpse into how AI is being used inside Microsoft. The company's tracking tool is still in early testing, and a spokesperson said that employees are not required to report their AI usage.
