Microsoft Engineer Claims Age Was Factor in Layoff Decision
A Microsoft software engineer based in Hyderabad claimed he was laid off because of his age, sparking an online discussion about workplace assumptions and financial obligations.
The employee, who has around three years of experience, said his manager told him during the layoff call that he was relatively young and had fewer responsibilities than other employees.
The engineer stated that this comment was difficult to accept because he carries significant financial responsibilities, including supporting his parents and his sister's education, as well as a loan taken by his father.
However, the employee later clarified that he does not believe his age was the actual reason behind the job cut, suggesting that the manager's remark may have been intended as a form of consolation.
