Microsoft Engineer Loses Job, Blames Age Bias in Layoff Decision
A Microsoft software engineer in Hyderabad recently lost his job and took to Reddit seeking help finding a new opportunity. The employee, who has around three years of experience, stated that he is the sole earner in his family and supports his parents, sister's education, and his father's loan.
The engineer claimed that during the layoff call, his manager said he was relatively young and had fewer responsibilities, which made the situation more difficult. However, he later clarified that he doesn't think his age was the actual reason for the layoff, stating it was part of a mass layoff in his organization.
The engineer has extensive experience in backend and full-stack engineering, with recent work on Agentic AI projects and hackathons. He is now open to various job opportunities, including freelance and contract work, and relocation.
