Microsoft Enhances Cloud Rebuild Tool with Secure Data Wipe and Remote Deployment
Microsoft has added two new features to its Windows Recovery tool, Cloud Rebuild. The feature allows users to wipe and reinstall Windows without needing a USB installer or relying on the health of their existing installation.
The 'Remove & sanitize files' option securely erases data from storage before reinstalling Windows, making it useful for PCs being returned, recycled, or decommissioned. This is different from the standard 'Remove files' option, which may leave data recoverable with specialized tools.
Could Rebuild now also allows IT administrators to configure and trigger rebuilds remotely through the Recovery CSP. This feature can be used to sanitize devices before reinstalling Windows, providing an additional layer of security for enterprises looking to recycle or reassign PCs.
