Microsoft Entangled in Copyright Lawsuit Over News Use in AI Training
A major copyright lawsuit over news use has implicated Microsoft in internal talks with OpenAI about using news content to train AI. Court filings show that Microsoft was involved in discussions with OpenAI regarding the utilization of news articles for AI training, which is a central issue in the ongoing lawsuit.
Microsoft has responded by stating that its AI products qualify as transformative fair use. The company also emphasized that remarks made by Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Deeptech Labs and former co-founder of DeepMind, were personal views and not reflective of Microsoft's official stance on the matter.
In an effort to address concerns about AI development and its potential implications, Microsoft has published a provisional AI training code. According to this code, AI systems should prioritize human control and alignment with human interests, as well as measures to ensure that AI remains containable during development.
