Microsoft Executive Shares Insights on Human-Centered Approach to AI Adoption
Kathleen Hogan, Microsoft's chief strategy and transformation officer, recently spoke at Marquette University's Business Leaders Forum event. With nearly 24 years of experience at Microsoft, Hogan has seen the company evolve significantly, especially under CEO Satya Nadella.
Hogan shared her personal story of how she transitioned from a development manager at Oracle to becoming an HR leader at Microsoft. She emphasized the importance of adaptability and being open to new opportunities. 'You don't have to have it all figured out,' Hogan said. 'Just work hard, collaborate, ask for help, and lean into that opportunity.'
Microsoft describes itself as a frontier firm, powered by AI but led by humans. Hogan explained that this approach requires leaders to be thoughtful about how technology is used to benefit people, not just for its own sake.
Hogan also discussed the challenges of implementing AI in business processes. She noted that only 5% of companies have seen a material impact from AI adoption. To overcome this hurdle, Microsoft has developed a framework called the 'frontier for success,' which focuses on four key goals: enriching employee experiences, reinventing customer engagement, reshaping business processes, and bending innovation curves.
