Microsoft expands Advanced Shader Delivery to GeForce RTX and more GPUs
Microsoft is expanding its Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) technology to support a broader range of graphics hardware, including GeForce RTX GPUs, Intel GPUs, and Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Series processors. Previously limited to AMD's RDNA graphics cards, the technology is designed to precompile game shaders, significantly reducing shader compilation times and minimizing stutter during gameplay.
The update will include support for all GeForce RTX graphics cards, from the 20 Series to the upcoming 50 Series, as well as RTX Spark-powered laptops. Intel's GPU lineup, including discrete Intel Arc B-Series cards and integrated Arc graphics in Core Ultra Series processors, will also be supported. Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Series processors are set to receive support as well.
Microsoft highlights the impact of ASD in Gears of War: E-Day, reporting a 95% faster first launch with the technology enabled. The game will launch with ASD support on PC, and the vendor expansion is expected to roll out later this month. Additionally, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and other unspecified titles will also support ASD in the near future.
ASD works by providing shader compilation files tailored to a specific GPU and driver during the game's installation process. This precompilation allows shaders to be ready before gameplay begins, reducing shader-related stutter after the first launch.
