Microsoft Expands ASR to More Intel Laptops and Desktops

Microsoft has expanded its Auto Super Resolution (ASR) technology to more Intel laptops and desktops. This upscaling tool is integrated into Windows and uses Neural Processing Units (NPUs) to enhance image quality in games.

ASR can be tried out with any game using DirectX 10 or later, but it shines on 'texture-heavy games at higher resolutions and graphics settings'. Microsoft recommends increasing the settings quality rather than prioritizing performance. The technology has been tested on the Panther Lake laptop series and handheld devices like the Predator Atlas 8.

However, ASR still has some limitations. It is trained on specific input and output performance targets capping out at 1080p, which may cause issues at other resolutions. Additionally, the upscaling process can blur text and fine line details in UI elements.
