Microsoft Expands Back-Compat to Xbox 360 Games
Microsoft is set to expand its Xbox back-compat programme to include Xbox 360 games on various platforms, according to The Verge. This will allow players to access these titles on 'Xbox PCs', handheld devices, and Project Helix, the next-gen console.
The programme will also grant extant developers the option to make their titles backwards compatible, with control over pricing and whether they are part of Xbox Game Pass.
A leaked document sent to developers revealed that this feature is expected to roll out between 2027 and 2028. The same document mentioned that original Xbox titles will be fully available on PC by October 2026, when four games currently included in the back-compat programme will have more company from first-party and third-party studios.
In other news, Microsoft's disc-to-digital programme has been delayed. This allows players to insert an Xbox One or Series game into a console and receive a digital license tied to their account, accessible on all devices signed in with that account.
