Microsoft Expands Backwards Compatibility Efforts for PC
Microsoft is set to expand its backwards compatibility efforts, allowing developers to bring their Xbox 360 games to PC in the coming years. A leaked document obtained by The Verge suggests that this initiative will allow devs to opt-in to porting their previously released 360 games to PC using the official 360 emulator.
According to the document, Microsoft will let developers decide on the price of these games and whether they are included in Xbox Game Pass. This expansion of backwards compatibility is expected to roll out gradually between 2027 and 2028.
The goal behind this effort is reportedly to build a large library of old Xbox games that can be played across various devices, including 'Xbox PCs', handhelds, and the upcoming Project Helix console, which is described as more PC-like than its predecessors.
