Microsoft Expands Biomimicry Approach Across US and German Data Centers
Microsoft is expanding its biomimicry approach to more than 20 data centers across the USA and Germany, using Ecosystem Intelligence, a tool built on Microsoft Azure.
The company's approach combines community input with ecological research and local understanding of how environments around data centers naturally work.
Ecosystem Intelligence measures biodiversity, noise abatement, and ecosystem functions such as water quality to inform nature-based decision making.
Microsoft piloted its biomimicry approach in the Netherlands in 2022, where native trees and shrubs have grown taller over the last four years since the data center's establishment.
