Microsoft Expands Cloud Infrastructure in Hyderabad
Microsoft has launched its fourth cloud region in India, located in Hyderabad. This move is part of the company's $20.5 billion investment commitment to the country's digital and AI infrastructure.
The new region, known as the India South Central region, joins existing regions in Pune, Chennai, and Mumbai. According to Microsoft India and South Asia President Puneet Chandok, the Hyderabad facility uses air-cooled chillers instead of traditional water-based systems for cooling, effectively using zero water.
India's data centre capacity is expected to rise from 2 GW to 6-7 GW by 2035, with over $100 billion in investments already committed. Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith said the new region will give organisations in India and Asia more capacity, resilience, and choice.
In a related development, India's public cloud services spending is forecast to reach $45.7 billion by 2030, growing at an annual rate of 22.2%, with AI spending expected to grow at double that pace.
