Microsoft Explains Absence of AMD from Surface Lineup

Microsoft has shed light on why it stopped using AMD processors in its Surface PCs. The reason, according to Brett Ostrum, Surface CVP, is that Microsoft's Surface lineup is limited, and the company must carefully choose which platforms to support.

Ostrum noted that 'We love working with AMD,' but Microsoft has to be selective due to its limited portfolio. This selective approach means that not all hardware vendors are supported by the Surface lineup.

AMD's processors previously powered the Surface Laptop 3 and Surface Laptop 4, but they have since been replaced by Intel and Qualcomm platforms in newer Surface devices. The company still works closely with AMD, however, as evident from its use of AMD hardware in Xbox consoles.
