Microsoft Eyes Exclusive GTA VI Streaming Deal to Boost Xbox Cloud Gaming
Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) is reportedly planning to secure exclusive streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) at its launch on November 19, according to a report by The Verge. The deal would make Xbox Cloud Gaming the only cloud service allowed to stream the highly anticipated game, giving Microsoft a significant advantage in the gaming market. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma reportedly hinted at this move during an internal meeting, suggesting it would set Microsoft apart from other platform holders.
The agreement, if finalized, would allow PC players without an Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5 to access GTA VI through Xbox Cloud Gaming, as Rockstar Games has yet to announce a PC version. Microsoft is also preparing to tweak its gaming subscription model in November, introducing a pay-as-you-go option for Xbox Cloud Gaming and adjusting streaming hours for different subscription tiers.
MSFT stock rose 0.2% in overnight trading on Tuesday, nearing its record intraday high of $550.01 reached in July 2025. The company has seen a strong performance this year, with shares up 10.1% year to date and a nearly 38% surge from July through September. Retail sentiment for MSFT shifted to ‘neutral’ from ‘bullish’ on Tuesday, while Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (TTWO) stock saw a slight decline during regular trading.
The reported streaming deal comes as Xbox undergoes a broader strategic reset, following job cuts and plans to sell or spin off some of its gaming studios. GTA VI, one of the most anticipated entertainment releases in years, is expected to drive significant interest and could further boost Microsoft’s position in the gaming industry.
