Microsoft Files Patent for Ad-Integrated Gaming System
Microsoft has filed a patent application for a system that shows advertisements during video games without interrupting players at critical moments.
The technology would identify when a player is at a natural stopping point, such as the end of a game round or loading screen, and pause the game to display an ad or promotional video.
In exchange for watching the content, players could receive a 'credit' that allows them to continue playing for a set amount of time, which could range from 15 minutes to several hours.
The system would be designed to avoid interrupting players during intense gameplay and could use machine learning and visual recognition to analyze gameplay and determine when to show ads.
Players could also be given control over the timing, with some examples allowing them to choose when to watch the promotional content or delaying it if they are in the middle of a battle.
