Microsoft Fires Narrative Director Days After Gears of War: E-Day Goes Gold

The development of Gears of War: E-Day has been marked by significant changes at The Coalition. Just four days after the game went gold, narrative director Juan Vaca received his termination notice.

Vaca had only recently celebrated the completion of work on E-Day with his colleagues. However, he was among the employees affected by Microsoft's latest layoffs, announced on September 22.

According to his LinkedIn page, Vaca joined The Coalition in 2022 and played a crucial role in developing the narrative of Gears of War: E-Day. As narrative director, he led writing teams and interdisciplinary groups to create the game's story from initial concept to final implementation.
