Microsoft has partnered with EVA Air and AIT Worldwide Logistics to use sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced from used cooking oil. The two-year program aims to reduce around 15,000 tons of CO₂ emissions across Microsoft's supply chain in the first year.

The SAF will be produced by Taiwan's Formosa Petrochemical using certified used cooking oil and production process under the ISCC system. This fuel can reportedly reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 80% compared to conventional jet fuel.

EVA Air will provide Microsoft with SAF environmental attributes linked to flights departing Taiwan, allowing the tech company to account for Scope 3 emissions reductions associated with air freight transportation of equipment for its cloud infrastructure.
