Microsoft Insider Sells $2.4M Worth of Stock Amid Earnings-Driven Rally
Microsoft's stock price surged in late July following its earnings report, but behind this rally was a significant insider equity sale. On August 4, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Takeshi Numoto sold 4,810 shares of Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) at an average price of $496.48, totaling just under $2.4 million.
This sale came on the same day that Microsoft's stock reached its 2026 high closing price of $492.81. While this timing might raise suspicions, it is likely that Numoto had scheduled the sale ahead of time due to strict rules governing market activity by senior company personnel.
Microsoft has been struggling in 2026, with a poor start to the year and concerns over capital expenditures (CapEx), return on investment (ROI), and its reputation. However, the recent earnings report helped turn the tide, with Microsoft stock up 3.07% YTD as of August 6.
Despite this improvement, there are still concerns about Microsoft's financials, particularly in its artificial intelligence (AI) growth, which relies on a small number of unprofitable clients. Investor Michael Burry has also warned that the current business models are unsustainable, hinting at a potential '1987-type fall'.
