Microsoft Introduces Remote PC Reinstallation via Cloud Rebuild
Microsoft is expanding recovery options for Windows 11 by allowing IT administrators to remotely reinstall PCs using Cloud Rebuild. This feature, currently being tested in an Insider build, enables a full reinstall of Windows from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), with both Windows and necessary drivers downloaded via Windows Update.
The existing Windows installation does not need to be functional for this process. Administrators can use the integration with the Recovery CSP to configure and initiate a Cloud rebuild remotely, choosing to reinstall the Windows build already on the device or specify a different target build.
With customized reinstallation, parameters such as the build, Windows edition, system language, and cumulative update version can be specified. An unattended installation file can also be provided, allowing an organization to reinstall a PC without an administrator needing to be physically present at the device.
