Microsoft Kills Live Chat Feature in Teams After Eight Months
Microsoft has announced that it will be retiring its Live Chat feature in Teams by October. The decision comes just eight months after Microsoft rebranded and expanded the feature, which allowed customers to connect with businesses directly from their websites. According to a Message Center notice, the company is citing a need to focus investments on newer customer engagement and communication experiences.
The Live Chat feature, previously known as Customer Connect, was rolled out globally in April 2026, expanding language support to 26 languages and adding appointment booking directly from the widget. However, new customers lost the ability to set up the feature in early August, with existing deployments given until October 5th when the service stops relaying customer messages into Teams altogether.
Organisations that are still using Live Chat need to remove the widget from their websites and have a replacement live before support ends. This is the fourth Teams feature to be retired by Microsoft in just four months, with Together Mode and Live Events previously being phased out.
