Microsoft Launches Fourth India Data Center Region to Fuel AI Growth
Microsoft has expanded its cloud presence in India with the launch of its fourth data center region, India South Central. Located in Hyderabad, Telangana, this new region will provide customers with a choice to run eligible Microsoft Cloud services and workloads from the area, ensuring security, reliability, and support. The India South Central region is part of Microsoft's long-term commitment to India's digital and AI infrastructure, with a total investment of $20.5 billion.
The new data center region comprises three Availability Zones built with a resilient design, aligned to India's regulatory and seismic-zone requirements. This will enable organizations to modernize critical systems, build new digital services, and turn AI ambition into measurable business impact, faster decisions, stronger customer outcomes, and new ways of working with enterprise-grade security, compliance, and governance.
Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, said that the company is investing in India's ability to set the pace for the world. He emphasized that the goal is not just to keep up with demand but to enable Indian enterprises to scale their AI workloads while meeting rising expectations on data governance and environmental responsibility.
India South Central is Microsoft's fourth cloud region in India, following Central India in Pune, South India in Chennai, and West India in Mumbai. The company also operates two data centers in partnership with Jio, namely Jio India West and Jio India Central. With this expansion, Microsoft now has the largest hyperscale cloud presence in the country.
