Microsoft Merges Consumer, Business Copilot Apps Ahead of Super App Launch

Microsoft is merging its consumer and business Copilot apps into one, laying the groundwork for an upcoming 'Super App' that aims to unify the company's artificial intelligence brand.

The move is part of Microsoft's effort to better compete with ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude in the AI app market. The company recognizes the blending of personal and work lives, and many people use AI assistants for both purposes.

Several features of the consumer app are being phased out, including Copilot Podcasts, Group Chat, Deep Research, and Mico, while commercial users will see mostly cosmetic changes.

The unified app is a key step towards the launch of the Super App, which will bring together Copilot's chat, AI coding, Cowork, and AutoPilot agents into one app. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has promised to release the Super App by the end of September this quarter.
