Microsoft Patents Ad-Injection System for Free-to-Play Games
Microsoft has patented a system to inject ads into free-to-play games during downtimes. The system, designed by Respawn First, offers players some ad-free playtime initially, which can be based on time or in-game progress.
Once this initial period expires, the game engine will trigger a brief window for 'promoted content,' such as ads, to appear while the player's progress is temporarily frozen. The system aims to minimize disruptions by showing ads during times when players are already paused, like after completing a quest or loading a new level.
This patented system rewards players with additional ad-free playtime credits after they finish watching an ad, allowing them to continue playing without interruptions.
