Microsoft Pauses Office Update Amid Licensing Issues
Microsoft has paused an update to its Office software after reports of licensing issues affected Office 2016 and Office 2019. The KB5002907 update was intended to help outdated Microsoft 365 Apps installations return to supported update channels, but it left some perpetual-license Office deployments without activation status.
IT admins reported cases where Office applications displayed 'Unlicensed Product' warnings and prompted users to re-enter product keys. In some environments, the update process removed Office entirely and failed to reinstall it, leaving affected devices without working productivity applications.
Microsoft acknowledged that the update's repair process left some systems without functioning Office installations and recommended reactivating affected copies of Office using valid product keys or reinstalling the software if it was removed during the update process.
