Microsoft Pauses Update After Users Lose Office Licenses

Microsoft has paused the rollout of its KB5002907 update after users reported that it deactivated or completely removed perpetual Office 2016 and Office 2019 installations.

The update, released on September 23, was intended to help users with outdated Microsoft 365 Apps installations. However, several users reported that their perpetual Office licenses were deactivated after installing the update.

Christian Van Hautte, an administrator in Belgium, told BleepingComputer that dozens of his customers' PCs were affected by the issue, and re-entering the original product key restored activation on the systems.

Microsoft has confirmed that it is investigating the issue and has paused the update to prevent further devices from being affected.
