Microsoft Pledges $10 Billion Cloud, AI Investment in Gulf Region
Microsoft has announced plans to invest over $10 billion in cloud and AI infrastructure across Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates by 2030. The investment includes both capital and operating expenses. This move is part of Microsoft's broader strategy to enhance digital resilience in the region.
The company's Vice Chair and President, Brad Smith, stated that the investment reflects ongoing infrastructure buildout and an expansion of operations in the region. 'We're sustaining all the investments we planned to make before this conflict started, and we're in fact adding to them,' he said.
Microsoft also plans to spend over $400 million on subsea and terrestrial connectivity across the Middle East by 2030. The company is already involved in the SeaMeWe-6 subsea cable system and operates a global fiber network spanning over 275,000 miles.
