Microsoft Pledges Billions for Gulf Region Digital Resilience
Microsoft is planning to invest over $10 billion in the Gulf region by 2030. This investment includes cloud and AI infrastructure, as well as subsea and terrestrial connectivity. The move aims to help digital resilience in the region, particularly with ongoing conflicts.
The company's vice chair and president, Brad Smith, said that Microsoft is sustaining its investments despite the conflict and adding to them aggressively. He also mentioned that the company has supported local partners during the conflict with digital resilience assessments.
Microsoft plans to invest over $400 million in subsea and terrestrial connectivity across the Middle East by 2030. It's strengthening its partnership with national AI companies, including Abu Dhabi's G42, in which Microsoft invested $1.5 billion for a minority stake in 2024.
