Microsoft Previews Windows 11 Updates Ahead of Patch Tuesday
Microsoft has released preview updates for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, which will be the last monthly update for version 24H2 when it ships in stable next month. This is because version 24H2 is going out of support on October 13, 2026.
The optional preview cumulative updates, KB5124010 and KB5124006, upgrade the systems to builds 26100.9550 and 26200.9550, respectively. The new features include updated File Explorer, Emoji 17.0 support, a new Tips widget, desktop background improvements, Bluetooth enhancements, settings app improvements, additional touchpad gesture controls, and Copilot key remapping options.
Additionally, the updates fix issues with File History, Camera, and System Monitor (sysmon). For Windows 11 version 26H1, the preview cumulative update KB5124006 upgrades the OS to build 28000.3086, bringing new features such as a resizable and movable Taskbar, a customizable Start menu, improved Windows Search, and file explorer improvements.
It's worth noting that Windows 11 version 24H2 is going out of support on October 13, 2026, which suggests that Windows 11 version 26H2 will become broadly available before this date.
