Microsoft Publishes Code of Conduct for AI Development Amid Safety Concerns
Microsoft has published a code of conduct for its AI models, emphasizing that 'AI must be subordinate' to humans and outlining specific guidelines for responsible development. The company's CEO, Mustafa Suleyman, stated that the purpose of AI technology is to 'serve humanity and accelerate human flourishing,' rather than becoming autonomous.
The code of conduct prohibits Microsoft's AI models from assisting with weapons development, producing violent or sexually explicit content, or facilitating the procurement of dangerous substances. It also emphasizes that AI should not be used to imitate a real person and that it should complement human relationships as a capable and trustworthy tool, rather than becoming a subject in its own right.
The move comes amid growing concerns about the safety and ethics of AI development, with some experts warning that unregulated AI could pose an existential risk to humanity. Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella echoed Suleyman's sentiments, stating that if the AI Microsoft is building does not help humanity and remains under human control, it is 'not worth pursuing.'
