Microsoft Redirects $5 Million in Incentives to Mount Pleasant Village

Microsoft will redirect $5 million in annual incentives from Mount Pleasant to the Village, with most of the money going towards lowering taxes and capital costs. The decision comes as part of a development agreement signed in 2023 between Microsoft and the Village.

The Village says that this move is connected to Microsoft's Community-First AI Infrastructure initiative, which includes a commitment from the company not to ask local governments for reduced property tax incentives. In fact, Microsoft has stated it will pay its 'full and fair share' of taxes, according to the release.

Microsoft has completed its first data center in Mount Pleasant, with nearly 550 full-time employees on site, and a second facility is under construction next door, expected for completion in 2028. The Village says that it plans to use the redirected funds to keep tax bills stable while maintaining services, without borrowing money.

The change will take effect starting from the 2026 tax bill, with the first payment of $4.9 million included in the 2027 budget proposal set to be released in October.
