Microsoft Redirects Incentives Back to Mount Pleasant Community
Microsoft has decided to redirect its annual incentives of up to $5 million from Mount Pleasant village officials back to the community. The tech company was set to receive the funds as part of a development agreement approved in 2023, but will now allocate them towards 'county-wide economic development initiatives' and to reduce property taxes for residents.
The Village of Mount Pleasant's President David DeGroot stated that the money would be used to keep the village's property tax rate stable or potentially lower it over time. Microsoft has already invested billions in Wisconsin, and its data center campus in Mount Pleasant is operational, with more than 550 employees working on site.
The tech giant plans to build another data center project on around 240 acres in Kenosha about 8 miles away from the existing campus in Racine County. The Village Board will vote on how to use the funds in the 2027 budget, as per the village statement.
