Microsoft Releases WSL Containers for Windows 11

Microsoft has made WSL Containers generally available in Windows 11 for developers. This feature is part of Microsoft's commitment to making Windows a prime location for building, running, and managing Linux workloads.

WSL Containers are similar to traditional virtualization solutions but lighter weight and more efficient. They allow software environments to be isolated on a host computer.

The ability to run containers in WSL was announced by Microsoft at Build this past June, with a public preview released shortly after. The new feature includes a CLI for building, running, and managing containers, as well as fully projected C++ and C#/WinRT APIs for Windows developers who need to run Linux containers in their apps.
