Microsoft Retires Forced-Installed Copilot Mini-Apps
Microsoft has been working on various Copilot-focused apps to make users more productive. The company built three mini-apps, called People, Files, and Calendar, in early 2025 as part of its Microsoft 365 Enterprise license. These apps were designed to be useful during meetings by allowing users to view contact cards, search for files, or check their calendar.
Microsoft force-installed these apps on PCs with the Enterprise license and even pinned them to the taskbar. However, less than a year later, the company has decided to retire the apps due to user backlash.
The company stated that removing these apps will not delete any existing capabilities or Microsoft 365 data. Users can continue to find the same information using existing Microsoft 365 and Windows experiences.
