Microsoft Reverses Course on Windows 11 Personalization

Microsoft has announced plans to restore user control over Windows 11, following years of criticism from users who felt their personalization options were severely limited. The company will be introducing a repositionable taskbar and more Start menu customization options.

However, despite these changes, some restrictions from earlier versions of Windows 11 will remain in place. For example, the Start menu will only offer three fixed presets for users to choose from.

The move follows Microsoft's decision to scale back its heavy integration of AI features, particularly Copilot, which was met with pushback from users. The company has stated that it wants to prioritize community feedback and make Windows 11 more efficient, both with and without the help of AI models and features.

Despite these efforts, Windows 11 still lags behind its predecessor, Windows 10, in terms of public perception and approval. Many users are sticking with Windows 10 due to its greater personalization options, which were a given until Windows 11 arrived and did away with them.
