Microsoft Rumored to Secure GTA6 Cloud Streaming Exclusivity
Rumors are circulating that Microsoft has secured a cloud streaming exclusivity deal for GTA6 at launch. This speculation began with internal comments from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who mentioned during an all-hands meeting that Microsoft is preparing something related to GTA6 that no other platform holder is doing. Industry sources later claimed this involves a cloud streaming exclusivity agreement.
GTA6 is set to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, with no official announcement of a PC version. If the rumors are true, PC players could access the game via streaming before a dedicated PC release. The timing is notable as Xbox plans to introduce monthly time limits for Game Pass cloud gaming starting in November. Game Pass Ultimate will be capped at 15 hours, Premium at 10 hours, and Essential at 5 hours per month.
Microsoft estimates that only 4% of Game Pass users will be affected by these changes, suggesting limited prior use of cloud services. However, the inclusion of GTA6 could increase demand, potentially making the time limits a burden for subscribers. The financial terms and duration of the exclusivity deal remain undisclosed, as neither Microsoft, Rockstar Games, nor Take-Two Interactive have officially confirmed the agreement.
Sony has been the primary marketing partner for GTA6, with expectations that the game would boost PS5 sales and platform fee revenues. A confirmed Xbox cloud exclusivity deal could alter these projections, introducing a new dynamic to the market.
