Microsoft Scraps Copilot+ PC Label for New Surface PCs

Microsoft has quietly dropped its 'Copilot+ PC' branding for new Surface PCs. The initiative aimed to label Windows systems meeting specific AI-accelerated workload requirements.

The new Surface Pro and Laptop models, announced this week, meet the former Copilot+ PC criteria of 16GB RAM, 256GB storage, and an integrated neural processing unit (NPU) with a performance rating of at least 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS).

Qualcomm's Hexagon NPU in these devices boasts an impressive 80 TOPS. The company's Kedar Kondap explained that the Copilot+ PC label was meant to define a category of AI PCs, but now they're offering the same experiences under the 'performance PCs' banner.
