Microsoft Sees Over 7.6 Billion Phishing Emails in Q2 2026

Microsoft has released data on phishing emails in Q2 2026, showing that researchers detected approximately 7.6 billion email-based phishing threats throughout the quarter.

The number of monthly volumes declined modestly from 2.7 billion in April to 2.4 billion in June, with credential phishing remaining the dominant objective behind malicious payloads.

Notably, Microsoft observed a business email compromise (BEC) campaign that targeted over 42,000 organizations in under three hours on June 1, 2026.

The researchers warn of a surge in Microsoft Teams phishing, which can evade email security filters and is becoming increasingly used by threat actors to deliver social engineering, phishing, and malware payloads.
