Microsoft Shares Secrets of Its AI Transformation Journey in Frontier Playbook
Microsoft has released its Frontier Playbook, a practical guide detailing the company's AI transformation journey. The document is a result of Microsoft's efforts to become a Frontier Firm, an organization that has successfully integrated digital labor into its business model.
The Frontier Playbook outlines five core elements necessary for organizations to generate real value from AI and includes three 'recipes' designed to help companies make their own enterprise AI transformation successful. It is the latest step in Microsoft's Frontier Firm push, which began with the company's 2025 Work Trend Index and continued with its 2026 Work Trend Index.
Katy George, Microsoft's corporate vice president for AI and work transformation, said that the goal of the Frontier Playbook is to help organizations scale their AI innovation from pockets of success to a whole organization. The guide applies to everyone, not just CEOs, team managers, or individual contributors.
George emphasized that transformation is hard and requires massive change in how people work, behave, and even identify professionally. Microsoft believes it has successfully become a Frontier Firm and is sharing its learnings with others.
