Microsoft Shields Teams Meetings from Malicious Bots

Microsoft has added a new layer of protection to its Teams meetings feature. Administrators can now automatically block identified external bots from joining meetings through Teams meeting policies.

The update, which was originally slated for May 2026 but released on September 23, 2023, also includes the ability to manage app and agent installation across Microsoft 365 and Teams.

According to Microsoft's release notes, this feature is intended to help prevent unwanted bots from joining meetings. Bots are commonplace in Teams meetings, often accompanying transcription or recording notifications. However, malicious bots can pose a security risk if they go unnoticed.
