Microsoft simplifies Windows 11 26H2 upgrades with new Installation Assistant
Microsoft has launched a new Windows 11 26H2 Installation Assistant to simplify the upgrade process for users. The tool, available through the Microsoft Download Centre, allows for an in-place upgrade, preserving existing applications, files, and system settings. Unlike a clean installation, this method enables users to transition to the latest version without losing their current setup.
The Installation Assistant is an addition to Microsoft’s existing upgrade options. Users can also opt for the KB5121794 enablement package, Windows 11 26H2 ISO images, or the Media Creation Tool. These alternatives offer flexibility depending on user preferences and technical needs, whether for quick updates or more controlled installations.
Windows 11 26H2 brings performance and security enhancements, including reported memory usage reductions of up to 2GB on some systems. This update is particularly beneficial for older or less powerful PCs, though results may vary. The new Installation Assistant provides a convenient way to access these improvements while maintaining the integrity of existing data.
Microsoft recommends backing up important files before starting the installation, even though the assistant is designed to retain user data. This precaution ensures additional protection in case of unexpected issues during the upgrade process.
