Microsoft Simplifies Windows 11 Upgrade with Version 26H2 Release
Microsoft is rolling out Windows 11 version 26H2, an annual update that promises to simplify the upgrade process for IT administrators. This release shares the same servicing branch as earlier versions, reducing deployment complexity and deployment risks.
Eligible devices running versions 24H2 and 25H2 can move to 26H2 through a lightweight enablement package that installs like a standard monthly update. Microsoft notes that some features previously disabled by default become active in Windows 11 version 26H2, including improvements related to settings backup, taskbar actions, and File Explorer.
As with previous annual releases, deploying Windows 11 version 26H2 resets the support cycle for the OS. Windows 11 Home and Pro editions receive 24 months of support, and Enterprise and Education editions receive 36 months.
