Microsoft Stock Price Soars, But Split Uncertain
Microsoft's stock price has been steadily increasing over the years, reaching $518 per share. This is less than 5% below its record closing price of $542 in October last year.
The company first went public in March 1986 and has since split its shares nine times during its first 17 years as a publicly traded company.
Microsoft's last stock split occurred in February 2003, when it carried out its ninth split. The company split its shares 2-for-1, which meant shareholders received two shares for every one share they owned.
The Motley Fool notes that Microsoft's share price has increased sharply since its last split, from around $25 to above $500. However, the company has not announced any plans for a 10th stock split, and the decision rests with its board.
